DK Shivakumar takes oath as Karnataka CM

After a long power struggle in the state, DK Shivakumar, who was serving as Deputy Chief Minister, was elevated to the top post. He was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka on Wednesday evening at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru.

The Congress came to power in the state in May 2023, and an arrangement was reportedly made under which both the front-runners for the top post – Siddaramaiah and D.K. Shivakumar – divided the five-year term to serve as Chief Ministers of Karnataka.

On Tuesday, outgoing Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah was given key party charge as he was appointed as a member of the Congress Working Committee.

Karnataka CM Oath Ceremony

The entire Bengaluru city was decorated for DK Shivakumar’s oath ceremony, with festive posters put up at several places. Security was beefed up outside Shivakumar’s residence and at other places in the city on Wednesday morning.

The event was attended by several Congress leaders from across the country, including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharg and others.

DK Shivakumar met Siddaramaiah earlier in the day before taking oath. He also met veteran BJP leader BS Yediyurappa and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and invited them to the function.
