CCTV shows sneaky shootingCCTV footage captures a chilling sequence of events when a man in a black hoodie is seen approaching Oberoi’s car with a firearm. He fired multiple shots from almost point-blank range, shattering the car’s window. Several pedestrians were seen in shock. The attacker is composed when the shot rings out.

Moments later, the footage shows him gesturing to an accomplice waiting nearby. The companion, riding a white scooty, quickly steered the car towards a nearby junction. Within seconds, both attackers disappeared from view, and onlookers were thrown into chaos by the audacity and speed of the attack.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused, who came in a Honda Activa, were well aware of Oberoi’s daily routine of visiting the Gurdwara,” said Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur Randhawa. He added that the attackers fired 8-10 rounds, shattering the windows of Oberoi’s SUV and another vehicle parked nearby.

The motive is personal, no extortion angle will appearRandhawa indicated that old enmity seemed to be the primary motive behind the killing. “There is no extortion angle so far,” he said.

Jalandhar CP Randhawa said Oberoi was taken unconscious to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Police have launched a city-wide search, sealing the area with around 15 checkpoints and sending forensic teams to collect evidence. “We got the information around 8 am, after which teams of senior officials and forensic experts rushed to the spot to collect key evidence,” Randhawa said.

The opposition is criticizing the law and order situation

Opposition parties have criticized this killing. BJP national spokesperson Jayveer Shergill posted on X: “The AAP government has turned Punjab into a playground for criminals and gangsters. The rule of law has been replaced by the rule of guns.”
