The life of a 19-year-old student turned into a nightmare in Gurugram after a relationship started over a mobile app led to a horrific case of brutality. The woman, originally from Tripura, was pursuing her bachelor’s degree in biotechnology and living in a PG residence in Sector 69 when she met the accused, who is from Narela in Delhi.

Police said on Sunday that the young man, whose exact age has not yet been given, was arrested for trying to burn the woman’s genitals.

From meeting the app to living it
Officials said the couple first came into contact through the mobile app in September 2025. According to the FIR, they started meeting frequently after their initial contact. They also had physical relations with the man who promised marriage, police said.
Eventually, they moved into an apartment together in Gurugram’s Badshahpur area.
However, the living arrangement soon became hell for the student from Tripura. Officials said the man began to doubt her loyalty and subjected her to repeated physical attacks.
How the violence escalated
The situation reached breaking point on Monday, February 16, when the man launched a brutal attack, smashing the woman’s head against a wall and furniture. He reportedly used a steel bottle and an earthen pot to hit her head, police said according to reports.
The cruelty escalated when the man poured alcohol-based disinfectant on her genitals and tried to set her on fire.
He is also accused of recording explicit videos of women.
The FIR states that he attacked her legs with a knife.
According to the woman’s statements, he threatened to beat her so severely that she would never be able to walk again or become a mother.
How did you escape?
The woman was detained for two days after the assault. On February 18, she gained access to the man’s mobile phone. She called her mother and explained her ordeal, speaking in her native Bengali. She told the cops that she specifically used her own language so the man wouldn’t understand what she was saying. Her mother immediately informed the police by calling 112.
The police reached the spot and shifted the woman to a government hospital in Sector 10 in Gurugram.
Doctors initially declared her unable to give a statement due to the severity of her injuries. She was later referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where she was eventually deemed competent to give evidence to police.
On the night of Thursday, February 19, an FIR was registered against the man, identified only as Shivam. He faces charges under multiple sections of the BJP Nyai Sanhita, including those for voluntarily causing hurt, sexual assault and criminal intimidation.
