A video showing a brief gesture of courtesy that transcends political party lines has gone viral on social media.

Tharoor on Tuesday joined the Congress seeking “clarity” on the India-US trade deal. (PTI)The Congress MP is seen in the footage Shashi Tharoor Stumbling on the steps of the Parliament complex while talking on the phone. Tharoor fell as he stepped on one of the stairs.

Samajwadi Party chief Dr Akhilesh Yadavwho was standing next to the Thiruananthapuram MP, immediately bent down to help Tharoor back, a woman security officer standing by also stepped in.

In the video, Yadav is then seen briefly talking to Tharoor, before holding Tharoor’s hand and going down a few steps. Yadav was also seen talking to a security officer nearby as the Congress MP walked up the stairs.

As the video surfaced, social media users praised Yadav’s “innate courtesy” and the security officer’s “calm professionalism”.

Meanwhile, Tharoor on Tuesday joined the Congress seeking “clarity” on the India-US trade deal. “We feel very strongly there A need for clarityTharoor said.

“President Trump has told India to buy USD 500 billion worth of US products, our entire import bill is USD 700 billion, how can we spend USD 500 billion in the US,” the Congress MP said, while questioning Indian purchases of American agricultural products by the Trump administration.

“…Apparently the American agriculture secretary is saying that the Indian market will be open to American farmers, we need to understand all these conditions because there are very important political implications for farmers in India,” Tharoor added.

The Congress MP also supported Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s insistence on reading former army chief Naravane’s memoirs.

Tharoor attended a meeting at Rahul Gandhi’s parliamentary office on Monday, signaling a thaw after the leaders met last week in the presence of Congress president Mallikarjuna Kharg.
