Hyderabadi Maoists-in-chief and chief ‘strategist’ of the banned Communist Party outfit Tiberi Tirupati, also known as Devoji, surrendered before the Telangana police on Tuesday, after spending more than four decades of an underground life, police said.

Devoji, a key member of the central committee of the banned organization and a member of the Politburo of the Maoist party, along with another central committee member Mala Raje Reddy, formally surrendered in the presence of DGP B Shivadhar Reddy.
Reddy said that besides Devji and Raji Reddy, two other ultras Baddi Chuka Rao @ Jagan and Noni Narasimha Reddy @ Gangana also laid down their arms.
The DGP said that Devuji was supposed to be elected as CPI(M) secretary at the Central Committee meeting of the party’s Politburo, which never happened.
Responding to the inquiry, Devoji said he surrendered due to health reasons and pledged to continue his political career within the “legal framework.”
He said: “For health reasons, I decided to give up my underground life and join the mainstream, not for my personal life. I decided to work on people’s problems within the legal framework. This means that I will continue my political life. I will take decades of the philosophy I believe in, as a guide to work from now on.”
Devuji is a native of Korutla town, Jagtial district. His father, Venkata Narsayah, was a farmer. He has an older sister, Leela, and two younger brothers.
Devuji married Arike Jaini @ Srujana in January 1991. She was a party member in Perimeli Dalam when she married Devuji. She was elevated to the rank of member of the regional committee and died in 2020 in a ‘crossfire’ in the Kasansur forest area of Gadchiroli district, Maharashtra.
After completing his early education in private and government schools, he moved to Korotla to complete his intermediate studies. There, he was drawn into the fold of radical activity and joined the Union of Radical Students.
He was the Chairman of RSU Korutla Town and then Karimnagar District. He spent years studying revolutionary ideologies before officially joining the People’s War of the Chinese Communist Party.
His commitment was strongly influenced by the Jagitial Jaitra Yatra and various popular agitations led by the CPI People’s War Group.
He was promoted as a member of the central committee in 2001 and was appointed in charge of the CMC in 2016, police said earlier.
