NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday closed four separate cases filed during the Covid pandemic, including those related to treatment of patients and dignified handling of dead bodies in hospitals.

A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalia Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi observed that things in the time of pandemic were different and the Supreme Court had taken cognizance of the issues and issued a slew of directions to allay the concerns of citizens.
The bench was dealing with four separate petitions on issues related to the closure of the MSP, guidelines for functioning of the court through video conferencing during the pandemic, proper treatment of Covid-19 patients and dignified handling of dead bodies in hospitals and distribution of essential supplies and services during the pandemic.
Senior advocate Sanjay Hegde, who appeared in one of the cases, said the issues that had been raised for consideration by the Supreme Court at that time no longer existed.
The authority said that various issues, including those related to the distribution of essential supplies and services during the pandemic, were raised before the court at that time.
She said that these issues were dealt with effectively by the court which issued a series of orders and directions.
While disposing of these petitions, the bench said that these cases are now moot.
Dealing with the suo motu issue of distribution of essential supplies and services during the pandemic, the court noted that several other separate petitions were also filed by various individuals raising grievances.
These petitioners can raise their grievances, if any, before the appropriate forum, it said.
The bench said a separate petition, which raised the issue of a fire incident in Gujarat that led to the death of some Covid patients in a hospital, will be heard in August.
