Chaudhary rose to the post of Prime Minister after Nitish Kumar tendered his resignation following his victory in the Rajya Sabha. Before becoming Prime Minister, the BJP leader served as Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister in the Nitish Kumar-led government.

Besides Chaudhary, Bijendra Prasad Yadav and Vijay Kumar Chaudhary were also sworn in as deputy chief ministers of Bihar.

Chaudhary rose to the top ranks after being elected as legislative leader of the BJP in the Bihar Assembly. While the BJP and Janata Dal (United) contested the Bihar elections as the NDA alliance, the BJP emerged as the largest party due to its landslide victory.

After being appointed legislative leader, Chaudhary met Governor Syed Atta Hasnain to demand formation of a new government in Bihar.

Soon after being selected as leader, Samrat Chaudhary expressed his gratitude for the party’s leadership in a post on X, calling the role a “sacred opportunity” to serve the people of Bihar.

“I express my sincere gratitude to the BJP central leadership for restoring their faith in me… This is not just a position for me, but a sacred opportunity to serve the people of Bihar,” he added.
