Jaishankar is currently on a visit to Europe and had a phone conversation with Rubio during which he raised the killing of three Indian sailors in a US military strike on a commercial ship in the Gulf of Oman.

Three Indian crewed ships were attacked by the US near Oman in the Strait of Hormuz amid escalating tensions over the strategic oil corridor this week. Three Indian crew members were killed in the attacks, after which India lodged a “strong protest” with the United States.

On Friday, India summoned the most senior US diplomat in New Delhi for the second time this week in protest against attacks launched by US forces on commercial ships in West Asia.
