THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, In the wake of recent incidents of passengers traveling on train feet falling, the RPF here has issued a public safety advisory to prevent such unsafe practices.

The Railway Protection Force, Thiruvananthapuram Division has urged passengers to strictly avoid traveling on foot and other unsafe practices while traveling by train, a railway statement said.
The statement said the warning was issued in light of the recent rise in “fall from train” cases reported across the division.
She said that in 2026, 37 such cases have been reported in the department so far, and many incidents have resulted in serious injuries and loss of life.
“It has been observed that passengers often tend to stand near bus entrances or travel on their feet while the train is in motion, exposing themselves to serious risks.
She added: “Such behavior significantly increases the possibility of losing balance due to sudden jerks, curves, braking, congestion or physical discomfort during travel. Even a momentary slip can lead to serious injuries or deaths.”
The RPF said the numbers underscore the seriousness of the issue and the urgent need to increase public awareness and responsible travel behaviour.
It also expressed deep concern about passengers’ continued tendency to engage in unsafe travel practices despite repeated warnings and awareness campaigns.
RPF has strongly advised passengers to avoid traveling on foot platforms under any circumstances, move around inside the coach after boarding, refrain from boarding or alighting from moving trains, and avoid leaning outside train doors and entrances.
She also said that RPF personnel, in coordination with other railway employees, are conducting regular awareness campaigns, issuing station announcements, counseling passengers and intensifying surveillance at vulnerable stations and on board trains to prevent such incidents.
“The RPF affirms that no journey is worth risking your life and seeks the sincere cooperation of the traveling public to ensure a safe and secure travel environment for all,” the statement read.
