Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, is facing widespread power outages on Tuesday, March 24, due to a host of issues, including increased electricity demand in the summer, technical issues, and maintenance issues.

According to officials from the South Telangana Power Distribution Corporation (TGSPDCL), residents of the area Hyderabad will face power outages lasting between two and five hours, although they will occur at different times and in different areas.

According to a News18 report, the outage is mainly due to the removal of tree branches, transformer repairs and feeder maintenance works.

Power outage schedule in Hyderabad

  • Gulnaka and Chikadapalli: Residents of Chinnumber, Chikkadapalli, Krishna Nagar and Narayangoda will face power outage from 2 pm to 5 pm due to maintenance of 11 KV lines.
  • Nesharam and Malapur: A short power outage is expected from 3 pm to 4 pm in Bhavani Nagar, L Reddy Nagar, HCL Colony, SP Nagar, Old Mallapore Village, Green Hills Colony and Mallapore Industrial Area.
  • Dilsukhnagar and LB Nagar: Power supply will be cut from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm at Dilsukhnagar Main Road, Ramalayam Road and near Anand Biscuit Factory. Additionally, Shalivahan Nagar and Pratap Nagar areas will not witness power outage from 12 noon to 1 pm.
  • Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills: In Banjara Hills Road No. 12 and 14, as well as Jubilee Hills Road No. 36, residents may face a gradual power outage from 11 am to afternoon across several colonies.

While power outages may be necessary for maintenance work, they may also cause significant inconvenience to residents as temperatures continue to rise during the day. Employees, students and small businesses working from home may be among those most affected by this disruption.

Residents also expressed concerns about prolonged power outages during the afternoon hours, which could lead to high indoor temperatures and potential health risks.

Officials offer hopeful advice

Officials quoted in the News18 report advised that if maintenance work is completed ahead of schedule, power supply will be restored earlier than planned. They also urged consumers to complete urgent tasks before the scheduled power outages.

Residents of Hyderabad can call helpline 1912 for electricity related complaints. They can access energy-related information via the official mobile application.

Officials also requested public cooperation, stressing that these maintenance activities are necessary to ensure that power supplies are not interrupted during the summer months.
