The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day and will reconvene on February 10 after repeatedly obstructing opposition MPs’ demands for talks on the India-US Interim Trade Agreement framework. The House convened at 11am on Monday but adjourned twice before briefly resuming at 2pm, only to adjourn again until Tuesday.

New Delhi, February 06 (SABA): Lok Sabha LOP Rahul (Rehul Singh) from Jenaul.Rahul vs RijijuLeader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi claimed that he was given a personal assurance that he would be allowed to raise certain issues on the floor before the budget debate began. He alleged that the chair is being withdrawn with assurance.

“The Speaker has committed, committed to us personally that I will be allowed to speak here before the budget discussion. Now you are going back on your words. I want to know whether I will be allowed to make those points,” Gandhi said to MP Sandhya Roy, who was presiding over the proceedings in Om Birla’s absence.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, however, disputed Gandhi’s claim, saying no such assurance had been given. Rijiju said the issue was discussed in a meeting with Om Birla, which was also attended by Congress MP KC Venugopal.

“Speaker Sir also told the chamber, Venugopal G I also joined there. The Speaker said that ‘the House should act if all agree’. Venugopal was also told that they wanted their Leader of the Opposition to speak; We asked ‘Do you want to raise an issue?’. If they accuse the speaker of something, the speaker will also answer. What Rahul Gandhi said is 100 per cent false, the Speaker did not say that,” Rijiju said in the House.

MP Sandhya Roy, who was presiding over the proceedings, said he had not received any notice to raise any issue regarding the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and without following due process, the House could not discuss.
