A 35-year-old tourist from Shirur was rescued after he fell nearly 150 feet into a gorge at Sinhagad Fort in Pune, Maharashtra on Wednesday evening while trying to take pictures of the sunset, police said.

According to police officers, Yogesh Mohan Shitole was visiting the famous hill fort in the evening. At around 4:30pm to 5pm, move towards the western edge of the fort, near a place known locally as “Eve Point”, to capture sunset views.
Police officers added that while navigating the grassy area near the cliff, Shitul lost his footing, slipped and fell into a deep ravine.
Shitole reportedly fell from a height of 150-170 feet and lost consciousness. He regained consciousness around 7-7:30 pm and immediately called emergency helpline No. 112, informing the authorities of his fall and location.
A team from Haveli police station, led by officer Aniket Kale, alerted the disaster management rescue team. A joint rescue operation was launched.
After a difficult operation in low-light conditions, they succeeded in returning Shitul to safety. “The night rescue operation was difficult due to visibility issues, but our team responded quickly and the operation was successful,” said Tanaji Bhosale, a member of the haveli’s disaster management team who was part of the rescue operation.
Shitol was later transferred to a private hospital for medical treatment.
Bhosale urged visitors to be careful while exploring the cliff edges and avoid dangerous sites, especially during monsoons and evening hours when visibility and ground stability could be compromised.
