Following the alleged stone attack on Kerala Health Minister Veena George at the district Congress committee office, party workers on Friday marched through Kannur city and staged a protest.

Footage from ANI showed that a scuffle broke out when Students Federation of India (SFI) activists walked to the DCC office and tried to storm it, leading to clashes.
George was scheduled to return to the state capital Thiruvananthapuram from Kannur railway station in Kerala around 3.20pm yesterday, when she was attacked during a ‘black flag’ protest by the Congress-affiliated Kerala Students Union (KSU) which demanded her resignation.
Highlights of the Kerala protests
- George, accompanied by Kerala President AM Shamsir, was scheduled to return to the state capital Thiruvananthapuram from Kannur railway station in Kerala yesterday.
- Around 3.20 pm on Thursday, she was allegedly attacked during a ‘black flag’ protest organized by the Congress-affiliated Kerala Students’ Union, which demanded her resignation.
- She was unable to continue her journey and was initially admitted to Kannur District Hospital. Later, she was shifted to Kannur Government Medical College Hospital in Pariyaram after persistent complaints of neck and hand pain.
- On Friday, party workers marched through Kannur city to stage a protest. A scuffle broke out soon after Students Federation of India (SFI) activists attempted to storm the DCC office, prompting police intervention.
- Ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled in a few months, CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP P Sandosh Kumar on Thursday described the Congress as “desperate”, alleging that the party, which has been out of power in the state for the past 10 years, was resorting to attacking even ministers.
- “The attack on Minister Veena George is truly shocking and she has been taken to hospital. Kerala is a place known for its political protests and dissenting voices – all of that is welcome. But at the same time, there has to be an end to everything. This is unacceptable to any of us. The entire state of Kerala is against the United Democratic Front now,” the MP was quoted as saying by PTI.
- Kumar further alleged that the Congress-led opposition is “trying to divide the society to regain power with the help of some dangerous sectarian elements like the Jamaat-e-Islami and the Social Democratic Party.”
- Terming the episode a “drama”, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Sunny Joseph denied all allegations that George was attacked.
“There is no evidence at all. The videos and visuals clearly show that there was no attack. No one touched her with any weapon or anything. She did not inflict any injury. This is a false and fabricated case. It is just a drama,” Joseph said.
