Kolkata Police have arrested several people following an alleged stone-pelting incident on Park Street, which occurred during a protest against bulldozer work, officials confirmed.

On Sunday, police held a flag march when protesters pelted police with stones in the Park Circus area, injuring at least three officials and damaging several vehicles, officials said.

Additional ACP of Kolkata, Ashish Biswas, said that an illegal gathering tried to block the road, after which police personnel tried to disperse the crowd.
During the incident, some people allegedly resorted to stone-pelting, which resulted in three police personnel being injured. The official indicated that legal measures would be taken against those involved, stressing that no one would be spared.
“Some people tried to block the road. It was an illegal gathering. The police were trying to disperse them, and there was stone pelting at them. Three of our colleagues were injured. We have taken action as police. We will take legal action later. We will not spare anyone,” ACP Biswas said.

One of the demonstrators claimed that the demonstration was peaceful, but the police resorted to using violence against the demonstrators. He said the demonstrators wanted peace to return and demanded the reopening of shops that remained closed, claiming that people were facing difficulties due to the situation.
Another protester claimed that a bulldozer operation was carried out against them.
More details are awaited.
