Prime Minister Modi said the government is “doing everything in its power” to protect India’s energy security amid the global fuel crisis caused by the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

Addressing the NXT Summit 2026 in Delhi on Thursday, Modi said his government has worked in a comprehensive manner to make India “self-reliant” in the energy sector, which, he said, is leading to huge savings.
He added: “Before 2014, India had little storage capacity for the strategic oil reserve, but now, we have large reserves.”
He also said that his government’s resolve is clear that the citizens of India should not face any problems due to wars in different parts of the world.

He said that the development of any country depends largely on how it confronts challenges, and he sought to mention the major crisis that the world has witnessed in the past few years.
“We all know that global conditions can change suddenly. In recent years, we first witnessed the Covid-19 pandemic, then the crisis between Russia and Ukraine, and now another major war is unfolding close to us. This conflict has pushed the entire world into a severe energy crisis. In such difficult times, it becomes crucial how we respond as a country,” Modi said.
He added: “The crisis, in many ways, is a test for the entire nation. We must deal with these circumstances with calm and patience. By strengthening public confidence and raising awareness among people, we must move forward together. In this, everyone has a role to play…” he added.
