Days after a legislative setback over the Women’s Reservation Bill, Prime Minister Modi in Bengal’s Bankura took aim at the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress, saying the party did not want “more daughters of Bengal to become MPs or MPs”.

“TMC did not want more daughters of Bengal to become MLAs and MLAs because the daughters of Bengal were challenging Maha Jungle Raj,” Modi said during an election rally where he launched a sharp attack on opposition parties for blocking the women’s reservation bill.

Addressing a BJP election rally in Bishnupur, Prime Minister Modi termed the fall of the Nari Shakti Vandhan Adhiniyam amendments as a “conspiracy” by the TMC and the Congress. He alleged that the TMC betrayed the women of West Bengal.
“The women of Bengal wanted 33% reservation. Modi has ensured it. The women of Bengal wanted it implemented from 2029. Modi also made efforts to achieve this,” the women of Bengal said at a rally on Sunday. The TMC, along with the Congress, conspired and prevented the passage of the law providing 33% reservation for women.”
Referring to the Mamata Banerjee government as ‘Nirmam Sarkar’, Modi said, “This atmosphere, enthusiasm, love and vigor is a symbol of anger against ‘Nirmam Sarkar’ (cruel government). This is the holy land of Maa Sharadha, and many women are here. BJP is defined by women empowerment and safety, that is why women bless BJP more than others. We want to expand the role of girls in making Vixit Bharat. We want more women to participate in politics.”

He raised his voice in the poll, accusing the Transitional Military Council of violating the laws in favor of illegal immigrants.
“The TMC is violating all laws to benefit infiltrators. The TMC is offering reservations on the basis of religion, which stifles the sentiments of the Constitution,” PM Modi said.
Modi’s remarks come after the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026 failed to clear the Lok Sabha amid a united front of the opposition on Friday. He later criticized the opposition for what he claimed was “behrun hatiya” or the killing of unborn babies for the Centre’s “sincere attempts” to provide equality to women.

“This was an attempt to give more voice to every state in Parliament. Whether the states were small or large, whether their population was greater or less, this was an attempt to ensure equal distribution of power. But the Congress and its allies committed the crime of female foeticide with this sincere attempt in front of the entire country. They have committed the crime of foeticide,” PM Modi said in the video address.
He also said that TMC and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) have missed an opportunity to bring development in his address to the nation.
Criticizing the opposition, Prime Minister Modi said that parties like Congress, TMC, SP and DMK are responsible for this feticide.
“They are the culprits of the Constitution and Nari Shakti. The Congress hates the issue of women’s reservation,” he said, adding that the women of our country will give a befitting reply to the Congress and its allies.
