The Center has revised passport fees across categories, and the new rates are scheduled to come into effect from July 1, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Under the revised fee structure, the cost of a new or reissued 36-page passport for adults will increase from 36 pages to 36 pages. $1500 LBP $2500, while the fees for a 60-page passport will increase from $2000 L $3500.

The notification comes amid new controversy over whether passports can be considered valid proof of citizenship.

New passport and re-issuance fees are increasing sharply

Applicants aged 18 and above, as well as those aged 15 to 18 and applying under the adult category, will have to pay a much higher fee from next month.

The cost of a new or reissued 36-page passport with a validity of 10 years will be paid $2500 up from $1500 at present. The fee for a 60-page passport has been increased to $3500 of $2000.

The Tatkaal fee for the 36-page passport has also been revised $5000 from the current $3,500, while a 60-page passport would cost under the Tatkaal scheme $6000 instead of $4000.

Lost or damaged passports become more expensive

The government also increased fees for replacing lost, damaged or stolen passports.

The fee for replacing a 36-page passport has been raised from $3000 LBP $5,000 while the fees for a 60-page passport increased from $3500 LBP $6000.

Under the Tatkaal scheme, it will be expensive to replace a lost or damaged 36-page passport $7500 compared to the current one $5000. For a 60-page passport, the fee has been increased from $5500 LBP $8500.

Passport fees for applicants under 18 years of age have also been reviewed. A new or reissued 36-page passport for minors, valid for five years or until the applicant turns 18, whichever comes first, will now cost $1,750 instead of $1000.

The fee for replacing a lost or damaged passport for minors has been increased from $3000 L $4,250. Under the Tatkaal category, the new passport fees for minors have been hiked from $3000 L $$4,250, while the cost of replacing a lost or damaged passport will be expensive $6.750 up from $5000.

Police clearance certificate fees have been amended

The fees for obtaining a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) have also been increased. Applicants will now have to pay $750 instead of the current one $500.

The revised rate will also apply to Global Entry Program Surrender and Verification Certificates and other miscellaneous certificates issued on the basis of the passport.

The new prices are effective from July 1

As per the notification, the amended fee structure will come into effect on July 1, 2026. The amendment does not make any changes to the validity of the passport. Passports issued to adults will remain valid for up to 10 years, while passports issued to minors will remain valid for five years or until they turn 18, whichever comes first.
