Oracle, an American multinational technology company headquartered in Austin, has reportedly fired around 30,000 employees globally.

PTI news agency quoted two people affected by the reduction, one of them from the company’s human resources department, saying, “In India, about 12,000 employees have been laid off. The company is planning another mass layoff of workers within a month.”

Oracle mass layoffs

The sweeping layoffs at Oracle have reportedly eliminated about 30,000 jobs. In an email, employees were informed of some organizational changes and “due to these changes, a decision has been taken to streamline operations, as a result of which, unfortunately, the position she currently holds will become redundant,” PTI said.

Oracle has nearly 30,000 employees in India, including those affected by layoffs, and has about 1,62,000 full-time employees globally as of May 2025, according to reports.

Oracle declined to comment on the development.

The company reportedly offered 15 days’ salary to every employee who completed a year of service in India, plus one month of unpaid wages till the date of separation, leave encashment, bonus based on eligibility and pay for a one-month notice period.

Oracle also offered two months’ salary as a raise.

However, only those who voluntarily and amicably resign from the company are eligible for a severance package.

Meruju Sridhar, a former Oracle employee, said he was laid off in September for protesting the company’s 16-hour shift in India.

The agency quoted Sridhar as saying: “I called my friends and people in human resources. They told me that most Indians working in the United States with the company were affected because the local laws there are very strict when it comes to downsizing their citizens.”
