Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for AI, while noting the excitement around the technology in India.

Sam Altman appreciated Prime Minister Modi’s enthusiasm to “democratize” technology, which he said was also consistent with his belief.
“The energy here, the excitement of builders using AI in India for the entire spectrum is amazing to see. One of the highlights was that I was able to speak at IIT Delhi today…Leaders across India and around the world are really seeing what’s happening here. This is really our second largest market, and it’s growing incredibly quickly. There’s something very special, and it’s been great to see Prime Minister Modi’s leadership on taking us to the next level.”
Sam Altman added: “I love the Prime Minister’s vision. I think his enthusiasm for what this could be, and the need to democratize this technology, which is something very close to our hearts, and balancing that between making sure that everyone in the community benefits and that we’re able to mitigate the risks.”
Earlier in the day, Altman met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and highlighted the remarkable momentum of AI adoption in India as the country hosts the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in the national capital.
In a post on X, Altman said the country is the fastest-growing market for Codex, with weekly users quadrupling in the past two weeks.
“Great meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi today to talk about the incredible energy surrounding AI in India. India is our fastest growing market for Codex globally, with weekly users increasing 4x in just the last 2 weeks,” his post read.
Codex is an AI crypto partner of OpenAI, which acts as a command center for proxy crypto.
