One person was killed in a bomb blast in Singami in Imphal in Manipur during Thursday and Friday night, police officers familiar with the matter said.

The explosion occurred in front of the roadside shops at Singgami Makha Chungtham Likai under Singgami police station in Imphal West district at 12.10 am on May 15, a police officer, requesting anonymity, said.

The accident caused panic among the residents of the area. A damaged two-wheeler was also found at the site.
The police began investigating the incident. An officer said he suspected the deceased was carrying the explosive device.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been determined. The body was transferred to the morgue of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital for an autopsy.
No armed group operating in the state has claimed responsibility for the incident until the preparation of this report.
Manipur has witnessed a series of violent incidents in the past few days.
