NEW DELHI: The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization along with state licensing authorities have investigated the circulation of certain batches of fake rabies vaccine in India, leading to the arrest of one person, Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel said in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

The minister said that fake, adulterated and non-manufacture of quality medicines are punishable offenses under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. The Act empowers the concerned licensing authorities to take necessary legal action in respect of the manufacture, sale and distribution of any prohibited, banned or banned drug.
To monitor the availability of drugs, the Union Ministry of Health uses the Drug and Vaccine Distribution Management System under the National Health Mission. This web-based supply chain management system handles procurement, supply, distribution and inventory management of various pharmaceutical, surgical, surgical and consumable products.
It has a built-in provision to monitor and check the availability of drugs at all facilities at the district and state levels, Patel said.

The 90th Drugs Technical Advisory Board meeting held on January 25, 2024 discussed a proposal to attach bar codes or rapid response codes to other pharmaceutical products. The Board has agreed to the proposal to extend the provision of QR code on all vaccine products and all antimicrobial, narcotic and psychotropic man phase man patels.
