An 18-year-old youth was shot dead by unidentified assailants riding a bike in northwest Delhi’s Azadpur area on Sunday, an official said.

The incident was reported at 2.28 am when police received information about an injured man lying near Azadpur area.

A police personnel rushed to the spot and shifted the victim to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. He added that the deceased has been identified as Ishant, a resident of Jahangirpuri.

The officer said that preliminary investigation indicates that Ishant was returning home from a wedding when the attackers intercepted him and opened fire on him.

The officer added, “During the inspection of the crime scene, the police found empty cartridges. The crime and forensic team examined the site and collected evidence. The body was sent for autopsy.”

He added that the police have identified some suspects, teams have been formed to arrest them, and surveillance camera footage is being reviewed to track their movement and determine the sequence of events.
