The parents of slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Musewala staged a sit-in protest outside the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) office in Mansa on Wednesday, alleging that the Punjab Police failed to act on their complaint in the ongoing financial dispute over the late artist’s music rights and royalties.

Singer Sidhu Muswala’s parents Balkaur Singh and Charan Kaur protested outside Mansa SSP office on Wednesday. (HT_PRINT)Muswala’s father Balkaur Singh and mother Charan Kaur, along with their nearly two-year-old son Shubdeep, reached the district police headquarters while Bathinda range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Harjit Singh was briefing the media on the law and order situation. HT reported.

The couple alleged that a company holding the marketing rights of Sidhu Musewala’s released tracks had not shared financial audits or royalty payments for over a year.

“We are being deprived of the income generated by our son’s work. On June 8, 2025, I submitted a complaint to the DGP against Bunty Bains, Gurpreet Singh Bhasin, and Shabbir Momin. It was sent to SSP Mansar for investigation, yet nothing was done,” Balkaur Singh told reporters.

What is the complaint?Balkaur Singh, who is also a Congress leader, said he submitted evidence verified by chartered accountants and legal experts.

“It has been more than eight months, and the Mansa police have failed to act on the evidence. The police are acting biased under the political pressure of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. We are determined to fight it till justice is served,” he added.

Reiterating his complaint during the protest, Balkaur Singh said the complaint submitted in June 2025 was not acted upon or returned by the police.

“They (police) are not acting on my complaint, nor are they returning it. The SSP is not taking any action in this regard,” he alleged, according to a PTI report.

He said, if my complaint is false, the police should return it.

Forced to protest: Musewala’s fatherBalkaur Singh said he was forced to sit out due to continued lack of progress, the report added.

He also alleged that no action was taken after repeatedly visiting the SSP office to take action.

Later, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Bathinda Range) Harjit Singh called the couple for a meeting.

Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Waring has condemned the police’s alleged inaction, insisting that citizens have the right to register an FIR.

“If the police do not act, one will be forced to protest. The entire Congress is with the Muswala family,” he said.
