Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Monday accused the BJP-led NDA government and the Lok Sabha Speaker of not being interested in running Parliament, saying he could not discuss the Union Budget 2026-27 amid repeated disruptions in the Lok Sabha.

Finance Minister absent, says TharoorTharu also pointed to the absence of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during the proceedings, suggesting that the adjournment was expected.

“The finance minister was not even sitting in the House,” he said, “I think they knew the House would be adjourned.”

Both houses of Parliament were scheduled to continue discussions on the Union Budget 2026-27 on Monday. Sitharaman presented the budget on February 1.

Tharoor on no-confidence motion against LS SpeakerWhen asked about the report that the opposition party is considering No confidence motion against Speaker of Lok Sabha Om Birla, Tharoor said the decision would not be with him.

Opposition MPs are planning to move a no-confidence motion against the Speaker in the second half of the budget session, amid continued deadlock over parliamentary proceedings, ANI reported.

The China reference triggered sharp exchanges in the House, with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah objecting that citing an unpublished book violated parliamentary rules.
