“Fish is not eaten in states ruled by the BJP. If the BJP comes, you will not be able to eat meat or eggs. The BJP is biased, it does not believe in any religion,” the TMC said at a rally in Purulia.

Stepping up her attack on the BJP, Mamata said Bengali speakers were under attack in other states and alleged that the ruling party at the Center was seizing power by “inciting riots”.

“These people are inciting riots. They are coming to power by inciting riots, they are coming to power by killing people… Most of the attacks on tribals, attacks on women are happening in states ruled by the BJP… Our Bengali-speaking people are being attacked in other states. We are not oppressing anyone,” she said.

Voting in West Bengal will be conducted in two phases. The first phase is scheduled to take place on April 23, while the second phase will take place on April 29. The counting of votes is scheduled to take place on May 4.
