Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee on Saturday called on all opposition parties in West Bengal to unite under a “common platform” to fight the BJP, which took over the reins of the state from TMC after 15 years in power.

The former Prime Minister also called on student unions opposing the BJP and even NGOs to unite against the BJP.
Mamata’s message came even as Suvendu Adhikari took oath as Bengal’s chief minister, becoming the first BJP leader to do so. Mamata’s party suffered a crushing defeat in the state elections, with the BJP securing a two-thirds majority on May 4.
“I call on all opposition parties, including leftists and extreme leftists, to come together to form a common platform against the BJP,” Banerjee said while addressing a small gathering in front of her residence in Kalighat on the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore.
Mamata also urged national parties to join her “common platform” to fight the BJP. She added that she would talk to any political party if it wanted to hold a dialogue with them in this regard.
“This is not the time to think that the enemy’s enemy is my friend. Our number one enemy is the BJP,” the TMC leader said.
