Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel on Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “We are personal friends,” adding that the two sides will look to strengthen economic, diplomatic and security cooperation. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Israel on February 25-26.

In a series of posts on X, Netanyahu described Prime Minister Modi as “personal friends,” and that they frequently speak on the phone and visit each other as well. Netanyahu also said that he had visited India in the past, and Prime Minister Modi had also visited Israel. “We waded together in the waters of the Mediterranean, and a lot of water has since flowed into the Mediterranean, the Ganges, and Jordan,” he wrote in the post.

The Israeli President said that Prime Minister Modi will arrive on Wednesday and deliver a speech in the Knesset (Israeli Parliament), and added: “I am sure you will all be there.”

Netanyahu says ‘special relationship’ with PM Modi

Speaking about the relationship between him and Prime Minister Modi, Netanyahu wrote: “This week, the special relationship that has arisen in recent years between Israel and the world power that is India, and between me and its leader, Prime Minister Modi, will be expressed.”

The Israeli Prime Minister said that “the fabric of the relationship has become more cohesive,” and with Prime Minister Modi’s visit again, the fabric will become more tightened through a series of decisions related to strengthening cooperation.

In another tweet, Netanyahu said he spoke about the “historic” visit of Prime Minister Modi. He described the relationship as a “strong alliance between two global leaders” and wrote that both countries are partners in innovation, security and a shared strategic vision.

Cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence and quantum computing

During Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Israel, Netanyahu said that Israel “will work to strengthen cooperation in the field of high-tech, artificial intelligence and quantum computing.”

Netanyahu said: “I say artificial intelligence and quantum intelligence not because they are the future, but because they are the present. We, of course, want to be among the leading countries in the world in these fields.”

This will be Prime Minister Modi’s second visit to the country, after his visit in 2017 when he became the first ever Indian Prime Minister to visit Israel.

Prime Minister Modi’s scheduled visit to Israel comes against the backdrop of the Peace Council meeting on February 19. The Peace Council is an initiative that grew out of US President Donald Trump’s 20-point ceasefire plan for Gaza that was approved by the UN Security Council but has since expanded beyond its original scope. Administration officials said about 35 countries had committed to joining, while 60 countries had received invitations.
