Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran on Thursday announced that seat-sharing talks within the National Democratic Alliance for the upcoming state elections will begin after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Madurai on March 1.

Speaking at an event in Chennai, the Tamil Nadu BJP president stressed the need for proper coordination within the NDA alliance, in order to shape Tamil Nadu’s bright future. He also criticized the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam regime over the law and order situation in the state and also accused them of working against government officials.
“After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Tamil Nadu, seat-sharing talks (NDA-AIADMK alliance) will begin. DMK alliance is against government officials. Law and order situation in the state is not good… Students are carrying ganja and beer bottles in their bags… There should be no differences between us and we should work together as NDA alliance. We should all work hard and create a good future for Tamil Nadu,” Nagendran said.
Earlier, Nainar Nagendran, along with BJP leader Tamilisai Sundararajan, paid tribute to Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya during the inauguration ceremony of the party’s election headquarters for the upcoming state elections in Chennai.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay an important visit to South India starting with his arrival in Chennai on the night of February 28. According to highly placed sources in the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), the Prime Minister will spend the night at the Governor’s residence in Chennai. On the morning of March 1, the Prime Minister will leave for Puducherry, where he is scheduled to participate in a public program and address a large gathering. The visit is expected to highlight key development initiatives and government welfare plans, and attract the participation of local leaders, officials and party workers.
After completing his engagements in Puducherry, the Prime Minister will head to Madurai, often referred to as the ‘city that never sleeps’ and one of the most important cultural centers of Tamil Nadu.
During his visit to Madurai, the Prime Minister will offer prayers and darshan at the historic Thiruparankundram Murugan Temple, one of the six holy abodes (Arupadai Vidhu) of Lord Murugan and an important pilgrimage site.

The 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly will go to the polls in the first half of 2026, as the MK Stalin-led alliance will look to project the ‘Dravidian Model 2.0’ to prevail over the BJP-AIADMK alliance.
The entry of actor-turned-politician Vijay with his team Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is expected to turn the Tamil Nadu polls into a three-way contest.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, the DMK won 133 seats. Congress won 18 seats, PMK won five seats, VCK won four seats, and others won eight seats. The DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA), which comprises the Congress, won 159 seats collectively.
