Parliament’s seasonal session, first day
- The session on Monday ended with repeated disturbances in both the Houses as Opposition members demanded discussions on NEET paper leaks, issues faced by students and the Ram Mandir donation theft case. The opposition also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
- Ahead of the session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a productive Parliament and highlighted India’s recent achievements, including that of Skyroot Aerospace.
- Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge accused the Prime Minister of avoiding key issues like the NEET controversy and the Ram Mandir donation issue.
- The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha sessions were postponed several times after opposition MPs raised the issue of NEET and protests at Jantar Mantar.
- Amid the turmoil, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026, to increase the scheduled strength of judges of the Supreme Court from 33 to 37.
- Outside Parliament, Congress leaders KC Venugopal, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav criticized the government’s handling of the NEET issue and police action against protesters.
- Later in the day, Union Health Minister JP Nadda met a delegation from the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). The delegation sought Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation and Sonam Wangchuk’s release from hospital $Compensation of Rs 1 crore to the families of NEET aspirants who allegedly died by suicide.
- CJP leaders said the protest would continue until Pradhan’s resignation.

Parliament Monsoon Session 2026 Live: RJD MP Manoj Jha on Tuesday criticized the Center over the violence during the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) march to Parliament, saying the protesters were only seeking talks with the government.
“When was the last time you saw something like this? I certainly don’t remember… Were the children asking for the moon and stars? They were asking for dialogue. You are steeped in arrogance,” Jha told ANI outside Parliament. (that I)
