RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Saturday that the RSS is the world’s largest voluntary organization but also the “most misunderstood”.

Speaking at an event here as part of the RSS’s centenary celebrations, Bhagwat said the organization may appear to outsiders as a paramilitary body – due to the marches carried out by uniformed swayamsevaks – or as an all-India gymnasium, given its promotion of Bharatiya games and martial arts.

“But that is not the case. It is difficult to understand the Sangh from the outside,” he added.
“The best way to understand the RSS is to handle it and experience it from the inside. However, to do that, one must first ensure that it is safe to test and understand it. A lecture or a book can provide at least that much understanding to the Sangh,” Bhagwat said.
He further said that the RSS was not a reaction to any particular situation and was not opposed to any section of society or political party.

“People say it is the largest voluntary organization in the world, but it is also the most misunderstood,” the RSS chief said.
Since the RSS is often misunderstood, Bhagwat said, it has decided to reach out to people and explain the organization and its work as part of its centenary celebrations.
He said that the Sangh appeared to contribute to the welfare of the country and continue efforts to serve the country.
