The Congress on Saturday criticized the Center over the fresh increase in petrol and diesel prices, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is burdening the common people while prioritizing the interests of oil companies.

In a post on X, Congress said: “Mhanjay man‘Modi has raised the prices of petrol and diesel by $5 in the past nine days. Today, gasoline prices have been raised by 94 pounds and diesel prices by 95 pounds.

The Congress party claimed that the Modi government was more concerned with the profits of oil companies than providing relief to citizens affected by rising inflation.

The party said: “Modi only cares about the profits of oil companies. While governments across the world are providing relief to their people, the Modi government is busy plundering its citizens. Think at least once about the welfare of the people. How long will it continue to favor the capitalists?”

Congress’s comments came amid another rise in fuel prices, continuing the recent upward trend in gasoline and diesel prices.

Increased prices of petrol and diesel

Petrol and diesel prices rose again in major cities on Saturday, the third rise in fuel prices in less than 10 days amid continued volatility in global energy markets.

In Delhi, petrol prices rose by 87 paise to $99.51 per litre, while diesel prices rose by 91 paise to $92.49 per litre.

In Kolkata, petrol prices were hiked by 94 paise $110.64 per litre, while diesel prices rose by 95 paise to $97.02 per litre.

Mumbai saw an increase of 90 paise in petrol prices, taking the average to… $108.49 per litre, while diesel prices rose by 94 paise to $95.02 per litre.

In Chennai, petrol prices rose by 82 paise to $105.31 per litre, while diesel prices rose by 87 paise to $96.98 per litre.

The latest adjustment comes just days after fuel prices increased earlier this week. Petrol prices in Delhi rose by 87 pounds on Tuesday $97.77 L $98.64 per litre, while diesel prices rose by 91 paise from $90.67 L $91.58 per litre.

During the previous review, Mumbai saw petrol prices rise by 91 paise, to Rs $107.59 per litre, while diesel prices rose by 94 paise to reach $94.08 per litre.

In Chennai, petrol prices were raised by 82 paise to $104.49 per litre, while diesel prices rose by 86 paise to $96.11 per litre.

Kolkata also recorded a sharp increase earlier this week, with petrol prices rising by 96 paise to $109.70 per liter and diesel prices rise by 94 paise to $96.07 per litre.

Fuel prices in Jaipur also saw upward revision during the previous hike. Petrol prices in the city rose by 94 pounds per litre, while diesel prices rose by 92 pounds per litre.

After this increase, petrol prices stabilized in Jaipur $108.91 per liter, while the price of diesel reached 108.91 $94.15 per litre.

The Center had already increased the prices of petrol and diesel by a percentage $3 per liter on May 15 across the country.

The repeated increases come amid a call to conserve fuel as the world faces an energy crisis amid conflict in West Asia, which has led to a blockade of the important maritime trade route, the Strait of Hormuz. (that I)
