Bhubaneswar: A Maoist in Kandhamal district who wanted to surrender was killed by a fellow Maoist last month, police said on Wednesday.
Jethman Anvesh, a subcommittee member of the Maoist KKBN party who carried a $A bounty of Rs 22 lakh was recovered from Tarabadi forest under Daringbadi police limits on Wednesday.
Kandhamal Superintendent of Police Harish P C said Anvesh was killed by state committee member Shukro on January 29 after it emerged that he was planning to lay down arms under the state government’s surrender policy.
“Anvesh was killed by Shukro, a state committee member and top Maoist working within Odisha. After killing him, Shukro buried the body in the forest under Daringbadi police limits. The police later exhumed the body and conducted an autopsy that confirmed his identity. A case of murder has been registered at Daringbadi police station,” the SP said.
