In a case of suspected self-harm, a man died completely charred inside a burning car on the national highway in Tumakuru district on Saturday, police said.

Although the forensic report is yet to be received, police suspected that the victim, identified as Nagendra (30), could have used a rural bomb or Molotov cocktail to set fire to the car near Kalambila in Sera taluk.

Before the incident, he hit a woman in the car on the head with a knife. Somehow, I managed to get out of the car.

They added that the car driver also jumped out of the car to rescue the woman, and then an explosion occurred inside the car, and it caught fire in a short time.

According to police, Nagendra booked a car from Siddapura near Jayanagar in Bengaluru.

Police said they received information that Nagendra forced the girl into the car.

As they were approaching Kalambila Police Station in the afternoon, the accident occurred.

Speaking to reporters in Tumakuru, District Police Inspector Ashok KV said the police received information that a car parked on the side of the highway had caught fire.

The police team immediately moved to the scene of the accident, and it was found that the car driver and another woman named Ramya were outside the car, while the car caught fire.

After investigating the sequence of events, the police learned that an explosion had occurred and that there was a body inside the car.

“The driver and the woman informed us that the person inside used an explosive substance, which led to the explosion,” Ashok said.

“The preliminary information available to us is that a man named Nagendra forcefully abducted a woman named Ramya from Siddapura police station in Jayanagar area of ​​Bengaluru. Based on this information, we have identified the individuals involved,” he added.

He added that during the investigation, it will be ascertained how and why the explosion occurred.
