Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra on Wednesday said she was infected after she shared a video of a group of people throwing eggs at a place where she was meeting party workers in West Bengal.

Moitra claimed that she was “attacked” and accused BJP workers of being behind the incident, while also claiming that West Bengal Police personnel were present but did not intervene.
“Currently being attacked by @bjp4india goons with @wbpolice monitoring,” Mahua Moitra wrote to X. She also shared a video allegedly from the spot.

In the video shared by the TMC MP, men in a crowd can be seen throwing eggs towards the window of the building where she is heard speaking inside. The footage also shows people cheering after the eggs hit the window.
In another video message addressed to West Bengal DGP Syed Nath Gupta, Mahia Moitra alleged that a mob gathered outside a party meeting in a private office in her constituency and pelted eggs and stones at the venue, injuring her when she approached the window.
She claimed to have contacted the General Directorate of Police and informed them of the location, but claimed that while the police arrived, they did not disperse the crowd and instead “stood and watched” the attack continue, urging the police chief to intervene and fulfill the police duty of dispersing the mob.
A series of egg attacks on the leaders of the Transitional Military Council
The egg attack during Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra’s meeting with party workers is not an isolated incident, as several similar cases involving TMC leaders have been reported in West Bengal in recent weeks.
The pattern of such incidents reportedly began with TMC National Secretary General Abhishek Banerjee. On May 30, during a visit to Sonarpur to meet families affected by alleged post-election violence, he was allegedly attacked with stones and eggs. The accident reportedly left him with minor injuries. Video clips from the scene showed a group of people harassing the TMC leader and attacking him while shouting slogans. Abhishek described the incident as “political violence and state-sponsored terrorism” and expressed his gratitude to Rahul Gandhi for standing by him.
On June 15, TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh was also targeted when eggs were thrown at him outside party chief Mamata Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat in south Kolkata, soon after his exit. Following the incident, Ghosh filed a complaint with Kalighat police station, demanding immediate action against those involved.
In another incident, TMC youth leader Soumitra Banerjee was allegedly attacked with eggs while being taken to court by the West Bengal Police. The attack reportedly took place after he was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by BJP leader Ravi Keshari, who accused him of attacking BJP workers.
