The Vidhan Bhavan complex, the Maharashtra legislative assembly at Nariman Point in Mumbai, was evacuated due to a bomb threat on Thursday morning.

The budget session of the state legislature is underway. The Assembly’s work is scheduled to begin at 9.45 am, while the Council’s work is scheduled to begin at 10 am.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Satyanarayan described the threat as a hoax.

Speaking to the media, Legislative Assembly Speaker Ram Shinde said that an email was received threatening to blow up Vidhan Bhavan, the Supreme Court, the metro network and a bank. He added that the police, in cooperation with the bomb detection and disposal squad and police dogs, are searching the complex.
