Lucknow fire tragedy live: 15 lives reported in the blaze in which there are still fears many are trapped.
Lucknow fire news live updates: At least 15 people have died and several people are feared trapped after a fire broke out in a three-storey building on Usha Mehta Marg in Aliganj area of Lucknow on Monday. Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Brijesh Pathak, said that rescue teams were searching room by room after reports of some students remaining inside the building.

After the fire was brought under control, stretchers were moved inside through a nearby building. Rescue personnel made a hole in the wall to facilitate the movement of stretchers inside the damaged building. Officials believe between four and five people may still be trapped inside, while 12 deaths have been reported so far.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was pained by the loss of lives in the Lucknow fire incident and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families. He also wished a speedy recovery to the injured, and said that rescue operations are underway, and the authorities are providing all possible assistance.
The Prime Minister announced it as an ex gratia $2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the kin of each deceased, while the injured will receive $50,000.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident and offered his condolences to the families of the victims.
The Prime Minister directed senior officials to immediately communicate with the affected families and provide all possible assistance. He also directed the authorities to ensure the best possible treatment for those injured in the fire.
“The rescue operation is expected to be completed within a few minutes… Our priority is to ensure the safe rescue of all the children. Most of them have already been evacuated,” Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak told reporters.
Detailing the ongoing rescue efforts, Pathak said firefighters adopted innovative methods to reach the building. He said: “The fire brigade members were able to enter by penetrating a wall on the second floor of a neighboring house. Due to the thick smoke, exhaust fans were installed, and a search operation was being conducted in each room separately. Each room was searched, and the bathrooms were examined.”
