Residents of Delhi witnessed cloudy skies on Friday, with a dust storm affecting parts of the region. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 36.8 degrees Celsius on April 2, 2.8 degrees higher than the seasonal average, while the minimum settled at 18.9 degrees Celsius.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), thunderstorms with rain are likely on Friday and Saturday night.

Unstable conditions are likely to continue throughout the week, with cloudy skies expected to continue until Monday, April 6, the IMD said. Intermittent light rain and thunderstorms are also possible during this period.

Earlier forecasts had indicated that the national capital may witness light to light rain along with thunderstorms on April 3 and 4, indicating a short period of active weather over the region.

On Friday, temperatures range between 33 and 21 degrees Celsius. On April 4, the IMD issued a yellow alert for residents of Delhi, anticipating thunderstorms with lighting and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph in the afternoon and evening on April 4.

More rain this week in the northern and northwestern regions

Light to moderate rain, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, is likely across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Rajasthan on April 7 and 8, the IMD bulletin said.

Light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are expected over Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh between April 3 and 6, according to the IMD.

In the plains, rain will be more scattered. The eastern part of Rajasthan may see light to moderate rains with thunderstorms on April 2, while western Rajasthan is likely to receive similar weather from April 2 to 4 and again on April 6. Western Uttar Pradesh is expected to witness these conditions on April 3.

A fresh spell of rain is likely to begin from April 7, affecting the western Himalayan region. Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may experience fairly widespread rain or snowfall, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds on April 7 and 8.
