A 19-year-old man has been arrested from Maharashtra’s Amravati district for allegedly sharing unwanted photos and videos of women and girls online after luring and blackmailing them, police said.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted by Amravati Superintendent of Police (Rural), Vishal Anand to investigate the incident, which reportedly involves incidents of assault against several women, including minors.
The accused, identified as Ayan Ahmed Tanveer Ahmed, a resident of Baratwada in Amravati district, was arrested on April 11 after his photos went viral on social media showing him with women and girls.

Other reports identified him as Muhammad Ayaz, alias Tanveer. He was accused of sexual assault, sexual harassment and recording obscene videos.

“Love Trap”: Police arrested Tanveer Ahmed after his obscene photos and videos with women and girls went viral on social media. Police found that the accused lured girls into a “love trap”, took them to Mumbai and Pune, and shot obscene videos, NDTV reported. According to the report, the accused carried out the sexual assault on 180 minors.
blackmail: The accused lured the victims, took obscene photos and videos against their will, and uploaded them on social media to defame them, police said. The videos were also used to blackmail victims into prostitution. The incident created a storm after Rajya Sabha MP Anil Bond demanded a probe by the Special Investigation Committee.

Young victims: The police revealed, at first glance, that the victims appeared to be minors. However, the police said that none of the victims contacted the police in this regard. A case has been registered against the accused under Section 294 (sale and distribution of obscene content) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act, Sections 8 (Punishment for Sexual Assault) and 12 (Sexual Harassment) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and provisions of the Information Technology Act, the police said.
Bulldozer work: The Amravati district administration, in the presence of police, reportedly demolished part of the accused’s house, according to ANI. The visuals showed JCB demolishing the iron stairs constructed outside the house on Wednesday.
Incident investigation at SIT: The special investigation team investigating the case includes 11 police officers and 36 policemen. It is led by an Assistant Superintendent of Police, according to PTI. The police said they would take strict legal action against the accused. MP Anil Bond claimed that some other people were also involved in the case.
