The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Friday released footage of its S-400 ‘Sudarshan’ long-range air defense system, saying it achieved the longest interception range ever recorded in military history.

The video shows radar systems monitoring a distant airborne target before launching a missile and destroying it beyond visual range.
“Longest kill ever recorded in military history. The enemy may be out of sight but never out of reach,” reads an on-screen caption, with the Indian Air Force describing the strike as the longest-range interception ever recorded, ANI reported.
The video also refers to Operation Sindoor, which was carried out against Pakistan-based terrorist groups in May 2025. According to Indian Air Force officials, the S-400 system played a crucial role during the operation and was used to strike a target about 300 kilometers inside Pakistani territory.
The footage was released ahead of the Vayu Shakti-2026 exercise, a major display of air power scheduled to take place at Pokhran in Rajasthan, where the Indian Air Force will showcase its operational capabilities.

What is the S-400 Triumph?
The S-400 Triumph is a long-range surface-to-air missile defense system developed by the Russian company Almaz-Antey.
In Indian service, it is commonly referred to as ‘Sudarshan Chakra’ and is operated by the Indian Air Force.
India signed a $5.4 billion contract with Russia in 2018 to purchase five S-400 regiments, with deliveries to begin in 2021.
The system is designed to detect, track and neutralize a wide range of aerial threats, including fighter aircraft, surveillance aircraft, drones, cruise missiles and some ballistic missiles.
Exercise Vayu Shakti-2026 will also include a range of combat aircraft and helicopters, including Tejas, Rafale, Jaguar, Mirage 2000, Sukhoi 30 MKI, MiG-29 and Hawk, as well as transport aircraft and rotary-wing platforms.
