Heavy rain in Mumbai

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rains at several places in Mumbai on Monday, and isolated areas are likely to receive very heavy rains.

The forecast comes after continued rainfall over the weekend affected normal life across the city, leading to waterlogging, traffic congestion and disruption of transport services.

The IMD said active monsoon conditions are likely to continue across the Konkan region, and Mumbai is expected to remain under the influence of a severe monsoon spell, HT reported earlier.

The Meteorological Department has also forecast heavy to very heavy rains at several places in neighboring Thane, with very heavy rains expected in isolated areas. In Palghar, heavy to very heavy rains are also expected at several locations.

Authorities have declared a holiday for all government, private and civil schools and colleges in Mumbai due to orange alert issued for heavy rains.

Mumbai and its surrounding areas have witnessed extremely heavy rainfall over the past few days, causing waterlogging and downing of many trees. Since June 30, three people, including a student, have lost their lives in rain-related accidents.
