A fresh battle between Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) erupted in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday over the unpublished ‘memoir’ of former army chief MM Naravane, the citation of which had caused a stir on Monday as well.

During the ongoing budget session in New Delhi on Tuesday, Lok Sabha MP Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi and other MPs protested at Makar Dwar of Parliament, against the suspension of 8 MPs from the Lok Sabha and against the India-US trade deal. (ANI)Unpublished memoirs in question concerns An article in Caravan magazine about former army chief Manoj Mukund Naravaan’s accountwhich made the political leadership seem indecisive when India and China face off in 2020.

Gandhi tried to quote the memoir during a discussion on President Draupadi Murmu’s speech in the Lok Sabha on Monday. The treasury benches, including Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah, objected to the quotation citing Rule 349 of Parliamentary Procedure. An uproar broke out in Parliament, leading to two adjournments.

The same commotion broke out on Tuesday.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju moved the motion to suspend the remaining eight members of the budget session for “violating rules and throwing paper at the chair”. The motion was passed in the House amid protests from opposition members.The suspended MPs include Congress members Hiby Eden, Amarinder Singh Raja Waring, Manikom Thakur, Gurjit Singh Aujla, Prashant Yadaurao Padole, Chamla Kiran Kumar Reddy and Dean Kuriakos along with CPI(M) MP S Venkatesan.Rahul Gandhi has written to Speaker Om Birla alleging that he has been deprived of his democratic right to speak in the Lok Sabha.
