Samarth Singh, the fugitive husband of Twisha Sharma, who was harassed over dowry and died last week in Bhopal, reached the Jabalpur district court on Friday evening to surrender himself, his lawyer said. Pictures show Singh arriving at court wearing a hat, sunglasses, gamcha and face mask.

However, the court ordered him to be surrendered before the competent court having jurisdiction in the case, news agency PTI reported.
This development came about an hour after the anticipatory bail application he filed in the Madhya Pradesh High Court was withdrawn.
The following are the most important developments in the case:
The court orders a second autopsy after death: The court has accepted their request and ordered a second autopsy on Twisha Sharma’s body after accepting her family’s request, family members of Twisha Sharma said on Friday. This procedure will be performed by a team of doctors from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.
Justice Avanendra Kumar Singh explained that the autopsy will be conducted in Bhopal, with arrangements being made for a special flight to bring the medical team for the examination.
The earlier post-mortem report had said that Sharma died of “ante-mortem suspension with a ligature” and also noted several minor blunt force injuries on different parts of her body.
Samarth Singh withdraws anticipatory bail: Twisha Sharma’s husband, Samarth Singh, has withdrawn his anticipatory bail application from the Supreme Court, said Jaydeep Kaurav, Twisha Sharma’s lawyer.
The anticipatory bail application was filed after a lower court rejected his plea last week.
The case was transferred to the Central Bank of Iraq: In a related development, the Madhya Pradesh government has recommended a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the case and has given approval to the agency to take up the investigation. As per the Home Ministry notification, the investigation into Crime No. 133/2026 registered at Katara Hills Police Station, Bhopal, has been handed over to the CBI.
Notice issued to Giripala Singh: The Supreme Court on Friday also issued notice to Twisha Singh’s mother-in-law and former judge Gribala Singh, named in the case as an accused along with Samarth, on pleas seeking cancellation of anticipatory bail granted by Twisha’s father as well as the state government. The police also issued the third and final notice to record Giripala Singh’s statement on Thursday.
What happened? Twisha Sharma, originally from Noida in Uttar Pradesh, was found dead on May 12 at her matrimonial home in Bagh-Mughalia area of Bhopal. Her family claimed foul play and pointed to signs of injury on her body. They claimed that she told them that her husband had assaulted her. She married Samarth Singh, a resident of Bhopal, in December 2025.
