What happened in the previous elections?
KP Munusamy joined the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in 1972 and entered active electoral politics in the early 1990s, going on to build a long career spanning state and national roles.
He later served as Member of Parliament for Krishnagiri, where he contributed to key parliamentary committees on agriculture, science and technology. Returning to state politics, he won from Kaveripattinam in 2001, and in 2011, he took up an important organizational role as the Krishnagiri district secretary of the AIADMK.

The close margin highlighted the growing competition between the AIADMK and the AIADMK Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam constituency.
In the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Munusamy is seeking re-election from Vippanahalli, where he faces DMK’s PK Srinivas and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s SR Sampangi, setting up a closely watched contest in the constituency.
