Kerala Police have arrested six Bangladeshi nationals allegedly residing illegally in Aroor here, officials said on Friday.

Acting on a tip-off from intelligence agencies, police raided a scrap shop on Kottipadam Road in Aroor on Thursday, officials said.

During the inspection, the police checked the ID cards and other documents of the employees of the junk shop and found them to be fake.

The police said that the arrested persons were Rakif Shaba, Mohammad Sohal Faraz, Tariq, Sujir, Madi Hazida and Mohammad Agin.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed that they were from Bangladesh and were working in Kochi for the past few months.

They were then transferred to Hill Palace Police Station, where they were interrogated by intelligence agencies, police said.

A case has been registered under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act and the Immigration and Foreigners Act, officials said.

The police are conducting a detailed investigation into how the accused reached Kerala and who facilitated their travel.

The officials added that the arrested persons will be produced before the court as part of the remand proceedings.
