The LDF Election Commission in its complaint alleged that Cheriyan distributed the money directly and through UPI transactions.

The Kerala Assembly elections were held on April 9, and the results of all 140 constituencies will be announced on May 4.

The LDF is aiming for a third term, the United Democratic Front is seeking a comeback, and the NDA is hoping to open its account in the state.

The UDF leaders said on Sunday that they had also submitted a purported video in this regard to the District Returning Officer and Chief Electoral Officer, seeking a detailed investigation against the UDF candidate.

Cherian contested the election on the Kerala Congress (Joseph) ticket, a United Democratic Front voter, and took over as MLA Thomas K Thomas of the NCP.

In response to the allegations, Cherian told reporters on Sunday that he was ready to face any investigation.

He said, “I will provide a response supported by evidence when requested by the authorities based on the complaint.”

He denied using UPI transactions.

“Even uneducated people know that UPI is linked to a bank account. Let them provide proof that money was transferred from any of my accounts, especially since I am not using UPI,” he said.

Cherian also said that the video cited by LDF was taken from his private Facebook page and was posted a year ago.

He claimed that his opponent Thomas had earlier made similar “false” allegations against him.

Cherian, who was a former NCP member, switched to the Kerala Congress after falling out with Thomas and contesting the election against him.
