This major political shift in Karnataka comes after a long power struggle in the state. The Congress came to power in the state in May 2023, and an arrangement was made under which both the front-runners for the top post – Siddaramaiah and D.K. Shivakumar – divided the five-year term to serve as Chief Ministers of Karnataka.
Who will all be sworn in today
An informed leader told Hindustan Times that besides DK Shivakumar being sworn in as Prime Minister, his new cabinet may include – G Parameshwara, KH Muniyappa, UT Khader, KJ George, Krishna Bair Gowda, MP Patel, Priyank Karge, Satish Jarkiholi, Ramalinga Reddy, Dinesh Gundu Rao, Birati Suresh, Ishwar Khander and Yathindra – who could take the oath of office. Also, but there has been no official confirmation yet.
Security measures were tightened
Security was beefed up outside DK Shivakumar’s residence on Wednesday morning, hours before the swearing-in ceremony at Lok Bhavan. Posters of Shivakumar celebrating his promotion were put up across the city ahead of the much-awaited oath ceremony.
Congress will publish the list of new ministers today
Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that on Wednesday morning around 10 am, or afternoon, the Congress high command will finalize and send the list of ministers scheduled to join his cabinet.
He added, “The names that appear in the media regarding the selection of ministers are not official. The leadership of the Supreme Command will announce the list of ministers tomorrow at ten in the morning or noon.”
“The leaders of the high command discussed the selection of ministers and we have expressed our opinion. The leaders of the high command will take the final decision. After the Delhi leaders send us the list, we will send it to Raj Bhavan,” he added.
Siddaramaiah gets a key position in the party
As Siddaramaiah prepares to move on from the role of Karnataka Chief Minister, he has been given a key role in the party ahead of Shivakumar’s oath ceremony.
He was appointed as a member of the Congressional Labor Committee.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge appointed Siddaramaiah as a member of the Congress Working Committee with immediate effect, a party statement said.
