Karnataka CM news LIVE: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah submitted his resignation from the post of Chief Minister to the Secretary to the Governor of the state, Thawarchand Gehlot, in Bengaluru on Thursday. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar and others were also present.
Karnataka CM Live Announcement: Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot has accepted Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s resignation, a day after the veteran Congress leader resigned from his post amid ongoing leadership transition in the state. Siddaramaiah’s much-awaited resignation speech ended in a cliffhanger as he said the high command will now take a call on the next chief minister – a statement that came when many thought his deputy, DK Shivakumar, is set to take over as chief minister.

Gehlot also dissolved the cabinet he headed with immediate effect. Siddaramaiah will continue to serve as Chief Minister until alternative arrangements are made, the notification added.
Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah met former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Congress general secretary Randeep Surjewala at Jaipur airport on Thursday. According to Ashok Gehlot’s office, Siddaramaiah’s flight was diverted to Jaipur instead of Delhi due to bad weather conditions.
Will Siddaramaiah go to Rajya Sabha?
Siddaramaiah resigned on May 28, saying he was following the directions of the Congress leadership after days of speculation about a change in the top leadership in Karnataka. The resignation was initially handed over to officials at Raj Bhavan as Governor Gehlot was outside Bengaluru at the time.
“They asked me to go to Rajya Sabha. I politely told them no, saying I want to stay in state politics and am not interested in national politics,” Siddaramaiah told reporters after his resignation.
HT reported on Tuesday that Siddaramaiah may be offered a formula under which he steps down in exchange for a Rajya Sabha seat and a possible ministerial post for his son Yatindra, a member of the state legislative council.
Four Rajya Sabha seats, including that of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, are scheduled to go to the polls in Karnataka in June, with the Congress expected to win three of them.
“I have two more years as MLA. I will serve my people. I will continue in active politics,” he said.
Siddaramaiah’s exit marks the end of his second term as Karnataka Chief Minister, which began after the Congress returned to power in the 2023 Assembly elections.
Formula of the four deputy CMs
According to party leaders aware of the developments, a proposal to create four deputy chief minister posts was mooted during the party leadership’s negotiations with the prime minister.
“The Prime Minister has sought multiple posts of Deputy Prime Minister for his allied leaders as part of a broader transitional arrangement being discussed with the Congress high command. Representation and internal balance are now a key part of the negotiations,” a senior Congress leader said on condition of anonymity.

Karnataka CM News Live: Karnataka should have a Dalit president, says BJP
Karnataka CM news LIVE: Reacting to Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah’s resignation, BJP leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy said Congress should appoint a Dalit chief minister.
“I cannot say regarding the internal discussion, but there should have been a Dalit president,” Narayanaswamy told ANI. He added that many Dalit leaders and workers could leave the Congress after the decision.
“Dalit members and leaders should not compromise on their self-respect. If they are offered any ministerial post instead of the prime ministership, they should refuse,” he said.

Karnataka CM news LIVE: CPI’s D Raja on Karnataka leadership change: ‘Conflict resolved after Congress intervention’
Communist Party of India (CPI) general secretary D Raja said the recent cabinet reshuffle in Karnataka should be “closely monitored” after seeing the long leadership tussle between senior Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and D.K. Shivakumar.
The CPI leader said the long conflict was finally resolved after the Congress party’s “intervention”.
Speaking to ANI on Thursday, Raja said, “The conflict between Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah has been going on for a long time. Alternately, these two posts should hold the post of chief minister, but it was ongoing, the conflict was, and the Congress party had to intervene. Finally, we have understood that Siddaramaiah will resign, and Shivakumar will take office. Let us see how that government will function in the coming days. This is what one has to watch: the government that will be headed by Mr Shivakumar.”
His remarks came after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah resigned from his post and submitted his resignation to the Governor’s Private Secretary at Lok Bhavan.
