Wangchuk visited the hospital on Friday for an examination due to stomach issues, according to AIIMS sources.
Wangchuk’s medical report must be submitted by February 2 to the Supreme Court, which is currently considering a petition submitted by his wife.
Following the Supreme Court’s directive, the police shifted Wangchuk from Jodhpur Central Jail to the emergency department of AIIMS Hospital on Saturday morning, a police official said.
For a while now, Wangchuk has voiced concerns about his declining health while incarcerated. The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered the Jodhpur jail administration to make arrangements for him to be examined by a specialist, acknowledging his deteriorating health.
A bench made up of Justices Arvind Kumar and PB Varal ordered the jail administration to make sure Wangchuk is seen by a specialist physician (a gastroenterologist) at a government hospital during the hearing on Thursday.
KM Natraj, the Additional Solicitor General for the Rajasthani government, stated during the hearing that Wangchuk had been examined by prison doctors 21 times over the previous four months, with the most recent examination taking place on January 26.
Wangchuk’s attorney Kapil Sibal objected to this submission, claiming that the catchment’s water quality was the cause of his ongoing stomach ache.
The court acknowledged Sibal’s argument and stated that the patient’s needs should be taken into consideration when scheduling treatment with a specialist.
