Exercise Lametti will be conducted at the Defense Academy in Seychelles.

“This edition marks an important milestone with the participation of all three services of the Indian Armed Forces. The unit consists of personnel from the Assam Regiment, participation from the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force, including INS Tricand and a C-130 aircraft,” the ministry said in a statement.

The Indian contingent arrived in Seychelles to participate in the 11th edition of the joint exercise with the Seychelles Defense Forces.

The word “lamitiye” means “friendship” in Creole.

Exercise Lametti is a biennial training event that has been conducted in Seychelles since 2001.

He added, “The exercises will seek to enhance synergy in the areas of semi-conventional operations in the semi-urban environment, cooperation and interoperability between the two sides during peacekeeping operations.”

It will also work to build and strengthen bilateral military relations, in addition to exchanging skills, experiences and good practices between the two armies.

“The two sides will jointly train, plan and implement a series of tactical exercises to neutralize potential threats they may encounter in the peri-urban environment, while exploiting and displaying new generation equipment and technology,” the statement said.

The 12-day exercise will include field exercises, combat discussions, case studies, lectures and demonstrations, culminating in a two-day verification exercise.

He added, “The training will contribute significantly to developing mutual understanding and maximizing cooperation between the forces of the two countries.”
