The Israeli-Iranian conflict: What we know so far
Israel and the United States launched joint air strikes on Tehran on Saturday after diplomatic efforts over Iran’s nuclear program faltered, leading to a sharp escalation in tensions in the Middle East. Israel said the operation was aimed at removing threats from Iran, while US officials later confirmed US involvement. Explosions have been reported near key locations in the Iranian capital, including near offices linked to the country’s top leadership.

These strikes come after months of pressure on Tehran, as Washington deployed significant military assets to the region to press for a nuclear agreement. Israel closed its airspace and issued warnings warning of possible reprisals. Iran also said it would defend itself and warned against retaliation against US interests in the region.
